The NCAA has the pending House case settlement to give athletes a share of the revenue they help generate. A proposed $2.8 billion settlement includes a 10-year plan where schools can share up to 22% of revenue from media rights, tickets, and sponsorships—starting as early as July 1, 2025.
This means athletes could see direct benefits from their hard work on the field. The initial pool per school is at least $20 million, increasing annually. It's a major shift towards recognizing athletes' value, but it is not the major win most have portrayed it to be.
The NCAA will continue to maintain control over college athletes while appearing to embrace change. And OH, by the way, part of that settlement is that they want an anti-trust exemption which would stop them from being sued on all future issues. 🤔
