🤝 The AT Network and the I’m Determined Project have a strong presence at this year’s International Division on Career Development and Transition (DCDT) Conference in Chantilly, VA!
🚘 In their session, Melanie Derry (VCU ACE), Meghan Hyatt (VCU T/TAC), and Lauren Whitlock (VCU T/TAC) presented on the importance of self-determination in AAC use. For the first time, they discussed combining the three psychological needs identified by self-determination theory (CAR: Competence, Autonomy, and Relatedness) and the 4 Ps of AAC (Present, Personalized, Persistent, and Patient) to support self-determination in AAC users. They also discussed the role of the communication partner in making this happen!
