👂 LISTEN 👂 Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. Speaking up is scary! Especially when you’re a teacher. There is a history of gaslighting and silencing in this profession. How often have we heard things like “teaching is a work of heart!” Or “we do it for outcome, not the income!” This way of thinking is harmful to teacher’s mental health and harmful to the profession. We must start holding the system accountable and we need to do that together. In union there is strength! VEA is currently working with and supporting locals across the state to win collective bargaining in their region. The more collectively bargained locals in Virginia, the more rights we have to make changes across the state. 🗣 Collective Bargaining is the ability and legal right of employees to sit down with their employer and negotiate the terms and conditions of their contracts/employment.
