ICYMI: Places I felt comfortable in as a Black traveler Part 2 [SAVE + SHARE]:
I’m really loving the conversations my last posts on this topic have sparked so here are a few more places where I’ve felt positively received as a Black traveler:
Guatemala 🇬🇹. I spent a month traveling across the country back in 2011 and most recently spent two weeks in Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and Guatemala City in 2022. When I was there this past February I spotted a number of Black female travelers who were mostly solo. Upon reflection, it’s not difficult to see why! Guatemala is affordable, extremely beautiful, and very welcoming. I highly recommend traveling there, particularly to the Caribbean coast where Afro-Guatemalan/Garifuna culture is prominent.
