The Eau Claire / Prince's Island skating rink is ready and open for another season 🎉 It's an outdoor pond that the City maintains and it's free to use. There's some seating with rubber mats for skates to walk on, and a fire pit (not sure when they use it). ••• to get there via Calgary Transit, take the train downtown and get off at 1st street or 3rd street station, walk north (towards the river), really easy. There are no skate rentals, need to bring your own. There's no security guards or staff either, so skate at your own risk. Eau Claire market isn't open anymore so there isn't much for food/snacks, bring your own or just eat whatever you find. Olympic Plaza is about to be shut down for some significant redevelopment so there is no ice skating there anymore. They had a skate rental shack there but there is nothing like that at this location. Absolutely no hockey or fun allowed!! Just skating.
