Earlier this morning my brother Elijah brought it to my attention that today is a day I should never forget. It’s been 10 years since I beat testicular cancer. I was just 15 years old, a freshman in high school, when I got hit with that diagnosis. At that age, cancer was the last thing on my mind. While most kids were focused on sports, school, and just being teenagers, I was making regular trips to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I had to sacrifice a lot—time, energy, and normal high school experiences—but I knew what I was fighting for.
The road wasn’t easy. There were hard days, physically and mentally. But I pushed through with the support of my family, the doctors, and a whole lot of faith. And today, I’m proud to say I’ve been cancer-free for 10 years.
