#WomensHistoryMonth: Coach Rose Washington spent more than two decades shaping champions on and off the court as the head volleyball coach at Jackson State University. A proud alumna, decorated leader and one of the winningest coaches in JSU athletics history, Washington built a legacy defined by consistency, integrity and championship culture. A two-time JSU graduate with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in health and physical education, Washington’s connection to the volleyball program began when she served as a graduate assistant for the university’s club team. She would later return to JSU and transform that club into a championship-winning Division I program, becoming one of the most respected coaches in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Under her leadership, the Lady Tigers earned five SWAC Tournament Championships (2011, 2012, 2015, Spring 2021 and 2023), made four NCAA Tournament appearances, and appeared once in the National Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
