The city of Fresno is set to demolish the Bow On Tong Association Building in Chinatown, marking a significant step in the area's ongoing revitalization efforts.
The building, which dates back to the 1920s, was once a vital community hub but has been condemned since a fire in March 2022 left it unsafe.
The city acquired the property in January with funding from the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz).
Plans are in place to transform the site into affordable housing to help further the revitalization of the historic Chinatown district.
Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer and City Councilman Arias held a news conference on Monday in front of the condemned building.
Deconstruction of the building started after the news conference.
