📸: @underwaterpat: “Chatterbox Jelly” // Ol’ MacDonald, the verbose Laird of Princess Louisa Inlet, built his cabin by Chatterbox Falls after WWI, in a fjord named to honor his legendary hospitality for sailors braving the inlet’s tidal rapids. The same rapids that thwarted Vancouver's search for a Northwest Passage. MacDonald’s island, now named to remove a certain Hamilton’s legacy, is where @great_santini and I recently dove for @lindbladexp. We explored a wall that drops 600 feet into the depths, with crystal-clear water and jellies—moon, lion’s mane, and my obsession, Cyanea ferruginea—floating all around. These jellyfish, apex predators of the gelatinous food web, were covered in parasitic amphipods, their hitchhikers hidden in the fjord’s backwaters. I spent most of the dive lost in the “jellyverse,” captivated by the beauty of a place quickly becoming one of my favorites.
