🎥: karla_inthewild The Asmat people are an indigenous group living in the southwestern part of New Guinea, primarily in the Papua province of Indonesia.  They are known for their rich cultural heritage, intricate wood carvings, and strong connection to their land. The Asmat practice traditional rituals and ceremonies that reflect their animistic beliefs, involving ancestor worship and the veneration of spirits.  They are skilled artisans, producing elaborate totems and canoes, and their art often features themes from their mythology and daily life. The Asmat society is organised around clan structures, with a deep emphasis on communal living and cooperation.  Their diet is based on fishing, hunting, and gathering, utilising the abundant natural resources of their swampy, forested homeland. This was an experience I will never forget! . . . #whereiexplore #lindbladexpeditions #papuanewguinea
