Many cultures produce monuments, but few are as grand and recognizable as those carved by the traditional carvers of the Haida Nation, which lies some 60 miles off the coast of British Columbia on the remote archipelago of Haida Gwaii.   We are fortunate to have received a special invitation to visit the workshop and home of Haida Chief Jim Hart (7IDANsuu), one of Canada’s most acclaimed artisans, and a master carver. Guests marveled as Jim expertly worked; carving red cedar into the evocative ancient designs of his Haida ancestors.
