Galápagos sea lions use their long, broad flippers to navigate powerful ocean currents, but they also seem to come in handy for a variety of social interactions. I’ve watched mothers encourage their pups with a gentle nudge on the sandy shores. Others will sometimes use them to playfully swat each other in an underwater game before darting out of reach. Uncovering the secret languages of animals through my lens feeds both my inner marine biologist and artist.
