He’s super famous and sells work for super high prices and shows at the super gallery Larry Gagosian who does some of the best shows anywhere - but #WaltonFord is making illustrations of nothing with nothing to say about very little. It’s great to have mastered watercolor and dexterous skill to kill. But what are these illustrations - and we all love illustration - really about? To me, very little. I hope he sells them all and lives well. I doubt that I will ever see one of these again, somehow. This feels like collector art only, with almost nothing to psychically nurse or nurture or curse or embed entertain. Ok I guess for private musings made public? Certainly not commentary on 19th century academicism or what Edward Said called “Orientalism,” the west’s view of the East.
