Detroit, say hi to Lola, who’s portraying our Deputy Mayor, Media Howard, in honor of Black History Month! Lola and her brother Chance are the niece and nephew of Deputy Mayor Howard and are proud students in Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Deputy Mayor Howard made history as the second woman to serve in this role in Detroit. Before becoming Deputy Mayor, Howard was the Mayor’s Director of Community Engagement, where she helped build strong community support for major city development projects, ensuring residents had a voice in shaping each project’s community benefits agreement. She also served as the Director of Special Projects and the Manager of District 5 in the Department of Neighborhoods. One of Howard’s standout initiatives, Saturdays in the D, provides educational opportunities for Detroit’s youth and adults at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
