Today marks five years to the day that Breonna Taylor was taken from us.
On March 13, 2020 In Louisville, KY, Breonna’s home was raided by police officers who used a battering ram to enter her apartment. She was struck by gunfire five times and died at the scene without receiving medical attention. Her murder spurred widespread news attention and protests from our community. In the years since, no-knock warrants have been banned, settlements to Breonna’s family were made, and investigations into the Louisville Metro Police Department were made. Still, the fight for criminal justice reform continues. Our communities should not be at the mercy of law enforcement. Our neighbors, friends, and family should not be criminalized. Murders by the police should be prosecuted.
We deserve a legal system that values Black lives. We will continue to honor Breonna and
#SayHerName. Breonna Taylor should still be here. 🖤
