It’s a pretty amazing testament to modern science that I can even see this photo of Space Baby (technically Space Blastocyst 🚀) which shows the cluster of cells representing our single genetically healthy embryo at the time of transfer.
After positive bloodwork and home pregnancy tests, the next critical milestone is the 6 week ultrasound: we’re looking for a gestational sac, a yolk sac, and the flicker of developing rhythmic heart cells.
It’s an exciting and terrifying hurdle because I’ve been here 4 times before, despite having only one child. 🤍 In my first pregnancy after Delta, this ultrasound was a sad disappointment— we never saw the flicker of rhythmic heart cells and the pregnancy didn’t progress. In my next pregnancy, we made it past this point but I had a second trimester miscarriage, which is a story for another time. My third pregnancy after Delta was a chemical, with my cycle starting days before what would have been my 6 week ultrasound appointment.
