The sheer amount of plastic was shocking, even for us, but we were moved by the incredible community turnout to confront it. Indonesia is the world’s second-largest plastic polluter after China. In 2017, the government committed to a 70% reduction of marine plastic waste by 2025. Well, it’s 2025, and the plastic crisis isn’t improving. This isn’t just Indonesia’s problem. Plastic pollution is a global crisis that is out of sight and out of mind for many of us while millions of tons wash up on the doorsteps of island nations.
