Of all the inhabitants of the Sea of Cortez, blue whales are truly extraordinary. They’re the largest animals to have ever lived on Earth. And with their krill-exclusive diet, they’re essentially 200 tons of krill in whale form. Their calls, reaching 188 decibels, are louder than a jet engine—powerful enough to cause hearing loss if heard up close! Blue whales are endangered, and both they and the Sea of Cortez face threats from human activities.
