Very demure. Very mindful. Very cutesy. Twirling beneath the surface full of confidence and self-awareness is one of our favorite cetaceans of the sea, Ariel, the beloved sperm whale. Ariel’s boundless curiosity to explore her surroundings, soon leads her to our co-founder, Paul Nicklen. Unbeknownst to him, Ariel’s mother swiftly appoints him the regal role of babysitter/distractor, allowing the weary mom a brief moment of rest nearby. Ariel, ever eager to interact, delights in engaging with this new presence in her underwater realm. Our sweet baby cetacean, destined to become a 40-foot-long (13-meter-long) powerhouse, possesses the largest brain of any animal species. Ariel will also develop extraordinary diving skills, descending over 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) and holding her breath for up to 60-90 minutes at a time.
