When I was younger, I didn’t take warming up all that seriously. I would just hop on a 5.13 and then get on my project… well… maybe I’m getting older or maybe smarter; or maybe it’s a combination of both — but warming my fingers up properly whether before climbing outside or before a hard training session has been fundamental for me to prevent injuries, and to get the most out my sessions.
Here’s a run through of what I do after my shoulder and band warm ups — specifically for my fingers on my escapeclimbing hangboard I have been working with them on designing. The various edge sizes really let me start as big as possible on a jug, and progress all the way down to a 6mm edge.
If anything feels too aggressive or stiff for your fingers, repeat the previous round, or increase your rest times between sets.
Let me know if you’d like to see the other parts of my warm ups as well/if this is helpful 😊
