#OnThisDay in 1981, Martha Graham Dance Company premiered Acts of Light for the first time on the Opera House stage. 🕺💃 This piece represented a shift from Graham’s earlier works by presenting a more stripped-down and less theatrical performance to highlight the power of the dancers themselves as mediums of artistic expression. The title of the work comes from a line written by poet Emily Dickinson in a letter to her aunt in 1884 thanking her for her “gifts of light.” 🕯️🌟 #KenCenArchives 📸: Joan Marcus
