This week in Kennedy Center history: On Jan. 14, 1978, the musical Timbuktu! opened in the Opera House. Set in the 14th century Kingdom of Mali, Timbuktu! was directed by Geoffrey Holder and starred Eartha Kitt as Shaleem-La-Lume.
