“Apricity” • 54in (137cm) diameter • sold Apricity is a word that means “the warmth of the sun during winter”. This painting is first of its kind. I’ve always wanted to paint a circle, something about the concept really drew me in. The shape paired with gold leaf reminded me of the sun. Of how grand it is, and also the warmth and life it brings. I developed a few new techniques along the way while creating Apricity, which I am really happy with. I used a new method of creating the black stone so it composed almost a black velvet look. It looks almost soft and absorbs all the light. Capturing on iPhone was a bit difficult because the camera didn’t know what to do with the contrast. There are endless little details found in the base layer, and I love how they play with the top stone and gold. To me, Apricity emulates a perfect balance of darkness and light.
