Would you plant a chip or electrode into your brain? What if the chip helped you combat depression or epilepsy? Enter Brain-Computer Interfaces, aka BCIs. 🧠 BCI is a direct communication pathway between the brain’s electrical activity and an external device, most commonly a computer or robotic limb. BCIs are often directed at researching, mapping, assisting, augmenting, or repairing human cognitive or sensory-motor functions. In the short term, BCIs can be used to help stroke patients write again, or paralyzed patients type on their iPhones. In the long term, BCI technology could be used to increase human intelligence by connecting your mind to the cloud, or augment humans’ physical abilities.
