Germany’s far-right AfD has voted to dissolve its youth organisation, Junge Alternative (JA), after growing concerns over its increasingly radical tone. The decision follows the JA’s classification as “confirmed right-wing extremist” by the domestic intelligence agency.
Though once seen as a recruitment tool, the JA’s provocative rhetoric—such as its use of the slogan “Remigration”—sparked discomfort within parts of the party leadership. Its status as an independent association had also limited the AfD’s ability to enforce discipline.
The party will now form a new youth organisation by the end of 2025, fully integrated into AfD structures and open only to party members under 36. Leaders say this will allow greater control, including the power to sanction or expel members if necessary.
