In my 21 years here in the Carolinas, I remember about 3-4 times we saw the #aurora in just rural areas. It was always just the red colors. What made last night's #auroras so rare for our area was seeing the greens and even the purples in urban settings with light pollution. Since we are so far south, we usually just see the top colors(red) since most are over the horizon north. Last night, they were so close and farther south we were able to see greens and purples, even the city! Truly a once or a twice-in-a-lifetime event. #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc
