I felt very fortunate to be able to lend a helping hand to a manta ray in need yesterday. I was diving alone in Raja Ampat filming for a sealegacy project when a manta ray came right up to me and stopped. I am not sure that it was asking for help but I instantly noticed something was wrong as it circled around. As soon as I saw the entanglement I put down my camera and then began cutting off all of this fishing line while it remained calm. After removing the majority of the line, he flicked his wings and the last strand came off. He then went to the cleaning station next to me as if nothing had happened. If the line had caught on the reef he very easily could have become more distressed. I then spent another half an hour with him just hanging out on the bottom of the ocean. Mantas have the largest brain of any fish relative to its body size and it sure shows in moments like this. #gratitude #nature # love #manta
