A sea wolf, part of a unique culture of wolves that primarily subsists on marine life within the intertidal zone, patrols the coasts of British Columbia. Millions of years ago in what is now Pakistan, a similar creature walked the earth on four legs and hunted for prey beneath the surface. Over time, it evolved to become Pakicetus, ancestor to today’s whales. It seems some stories in nature are destined to repeat themselves, as long as we care enough to keep their living legacies intact. Perhaps years and years from now, the descendants of BC’s coastal wolves will look something like an orca, and we are witnessing the next great chapter in nature’s ever-evolving journey.
