Healthcare Disparities
Differences in health outcomes for Black peoples are driven by huge differences in social determinants of health, which are ultimately rooted in racism.
Social determinants of health include
1. Economic Racial differences that include income and employment inequality.
2. Neighborhood racial differences such as housing acquisition difficulties from redlining or differences in neighborhood resources based on what zip codes you reside in.
3. Educational differences that include the ability to read, access to quality education or higher education differences.
4. Food inequities such as food deserts, which speak to the lack of access to healthy food options, these are located in predominantly black neighborhoods.
5. Community differences that include poor policing and unfair justice systems.
