Many chemotherapy medications have a short shelf life—which can make it difficult to transport them to patients in remote and rural areas. So England’s National Health Service (NHS) is taking to the skies. Partnering with medical drone startup @apianaero, the agency launched a pilot project to send chemotherapy drugs via drone to the Isle of Wight. The first-of-its-kind effort could cut delivery time from four hours to just 30 minutes.⁠ ⁠ “This project marks a very important first step in the construction of a network of drone corridors connecting hospitals, pathology labs, general practitioner surgeries, care homes and pharmacies up and down the country,” says Alexander Trewby, Apian’s chief executive.⁠ ⁠ The test is part of an NHS plan to tap the latest technologies and innovations to improve patient care across the country.
