#OnThisDay in 1968, hundreds attended the funeral of Larry Payne, an unarmed Black teenager killed by Memphis police on March 28 after a sanitation workers' march turned violent. Payne was a junior at Mitchell High School. The police officer who shot him was never arrested, and justice was not served.
Later, his parents filed a lawsuit against the police department and the City of Memphis, but they lost the case. Neither the police officer involved nor the department was held accountable.
