Exciting news!! Scientists at UCSC have recently completed the first end-to-end genome of our wonderful mascot, the banana slug!! šŸ§¬šŸ‘€ Led by UCSC Baskin Engineering Professor Russell Corbett-Detig, the team sequenced 2.3 gigabases of genetic code for this little yellow fellow!! šŸ’» Achieved as part of the California Conservation Genomics Project (CCGP), the banana slug genome plays a bigger part in completing a veritable ark of important species within the state! This in turn helps scientist learn more about the species, their environment, and aid in conservation efforts!! šŸŒ±šŸŒŽ To learn more about the research process and team behind the project, visit: āž”ļø ccgproject.org Check out more amazing genomic happenings at UCSC: āž”ļø genomics.ucsc.edu #ucsc #ucsantacruz #genomics #genome #bananaslug
