Is it rude if I take my hearing devices off without telling people? Maybe… but honestly, I don’t care. It’s my disability, my choice.
I spend all day adapting to the hearing world—bending over backwards to make communication easier for others. So if I decide to take my hearing devices off and enjoy some quiet, that’s my call. My husband put it perfectly: ‘Sure, it’s considerate to tell me, but at the end of the day, it’s your choice. And if I need to communicate, I’ll figure it out.’ Love him and his mindset so much!
What do you think? Should us DHH folks have to announce when they take their devices off, or is it just part of setting personal boundaries? Let’s discuss!
