Today on #WorldAutismDay I want to introduce you to my not-so-little sister, Kathy. As the youngest of a trio of girls, Kathy has always kept our family on their toes with her outspoken confidence and creativity. When she was little, all it took was one mischievous smile and a flash of those sparkling baby blue eyes and there was little she couldn’t convince you to do. Despite her many artistic gifts, Kathy struggled to meet milestones as a child and was labeled as having a learning disability. She had difficulty connecting with her peers and often felt misunderstood in social situations. Her frustration with communicating her thoughts and emotions often led to tantrums… lots of them. Most people chalked it up to her being “spoiled” or a “brat”. Things that came easily to me and our other sister just didn’t click for Kathy. Never one to give up easily, Kathy persevered; she graduated high school and eventually enrolled in a culinary program after discovering her love for baking and...
