A day shift with the Shrine Guard 🕊 When they’re not in their greens, the Shrine Guard are in their blues protecting Victoria’s largest war memorial – the Shrine of Remembrance. The Shrine Guard, comprised of our Protective Services Officers, carry out their duties 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Trained in military drill, Shrine Guards also provide ceremonial support. It’s a unique role that exists in Victoria Police; one which carries a rich history dating back to 1935. - Here’s what a day could look like as a Shrine Guard: 0700 Raising of the flags 0730 Morning rounds and patrols commence 0800 Patrols continue, providing security and checking for damage/vandalism 1000 Uniform change rehearsal or ceremony 1030 Inspecting uniform and equipment 1100 Practise or rehearsals depending on the week’s schedule 1200 Break / de-kit 1300 Patrols continue throughout the day 1700 Lowering of the flags - This year marks the Shrine Guards 90th anniversary.
