It's not out of the ordinary to hear of a neighborhood cat or dog, wandering with no real home. But a different creature has been winging it through Visalia, bringing traffic to a stop as it crosses a road--or two. “It was during the pandemic. I decided to get some chickens because we couldn’t go to the stores very much. I had this idea I was going to grow a garden and get some chickens,” says Emerald Mares of Visalia. Among them—one chicken with plenty of attitude, letting Mares and her family know she was the top of the pecking order. “She's feisty. So if you bug her too much, she'll fly right at you,” Mares says. “My other chickens, they were almost like dogs. They would let me pick them up and hold them and they didn't mind it. And she was just too sassy for me. She didn't want me touching her or the chicks. So she attacked me from behind."
