40m block starts today with the Freelap timing system on deck. Each athlete’s 40m sprint is broken down into 10m splits (0-10m, 10-20m, 20-30m, 30-40m) so we can see exactly how they accelerate and reach top speed. These splits help us pinpoint key performance zones: • Acceleration (0-20m): the explosive start out of the blocks. • Transition (20-30m): shifting gears into upright running. • Late acceleration to max velocity (30-40m): the final push toward top speed. From these splits, we can build a velocity curve – basically a graph of how fast an athlete is moving during each segment. This shows each athlete’s unique speed profile: where they’re strong and where they drop off. One sprinter might explode out of the blocks but plateau in the transition, while another starts slower but hits a higher top speed.
