Imagine, it’s 2025 and you just lost your pet bird. What would you do?! Go out searching, of course. But, you would most likely also post all over social media and online neighborhood watches, right? 🐦 In 1916, after you did some searching of your own, you would go straight to the classifieds and get it out there in the local newspaper! That is exactly what the Ohmstedes did when their light yellow, moulting, female canary went missing on a Tuesday from their beautiful home on Postoffice Street. Reading the lost and found sections of historic newspapers is an insightful and often hilarious peek into the Galveston of years gone-by. 📰 Today’s #EastEndSaturday was built after the Great Fire of 1885 for German immigrant, Civil War veteran, and drug store owner Theodore Ohmstede and his wife Eleanora.
