We hope you're enjoying all of the rich #stjosephs130th history lessons! After caring for children for 33 years, St. Joseph’s officially opened a Pediatric Department in 1928. The hospital offered onsite state-of-the-art pediatric services and specialty care until Phoenix Children's Hospital opened its 11-story patient tower in 2011. By then, St. Joseph’s and Phoenix Children’s had formed a partnership, and approximately 30 St. Joseph’s patients were transferred by ambulance to become the first to stay and be treated at Phoenix Children’s new campus. Simultaneously, a total of 28 St. Joseph’s pediatric specialists and approximately 300 additional staff became employees of Phoenix Children’s, completing a strategic alliance that united the two organizations’ pediatric programs into one exceptional pediatric health care delivery system.
