Dozens of people were evacuated and more than 70 homes damaged in Burns during the flooding that triggered a state of emergency in Harney County, city officials said. The flooding, which began last month, swamped parts of Burns last weekend, hitting north Burns and the Burns Paiute Tribe especially hard, Burns City Manager Judy Erwin told The Oregonian/OregonLive. The disaster has been compounded by a “complete collapse” of the sewer system, contaminating the floodwater and making bathrooms, sinks and laundry machines unusable in homes across the town.
