“Glory Box” helped define the trip-hop genre with its innovative blend of electronic beats, sampled sounds, and live instrumentation. The song’s atmospheric and melancholic sound was groundbreaking at the time of its release in 1994.
But did you know that Isaac Hayes is listed as one of the songwriters on “Glory Box” due to the repeated use of his gorgeous sample off “Ike’s Rap II” (1971) which pretty much shapes the vibe of this iconic 90s gem.
Portishead has released at least four different versions of “Glory Box”:
* The original album version: Found on their debut album, “Dummy.”
* Single versions: Released as a 12” single, these often included extended mixes or remixes.
* Live versions: Captured during their concerts and released on live albums or bootlegs.
* Remastered versions: Included in remastered editions of “Dummy.”
