How many high school athletes will break four minutes in the mile in 2023?
Only 17 athletes have managed to run under 4:00 in high school history, with Jim Ryun being the first to do so in 1964, when the Kansas native dropped a 3:59.0 at the Compton Invitational in Los Angeles, California.
Prior to the 2022 indoor and outdoor track seasons, only 12 high school boys were on the elite list of sub-4:00 minute milers. In 2022, a whopping 5 athletes joined the coveted list, with regards to Colin Sahlman, Gary Martin, Connor Burns, Rheinhardt Harrison, and Simeon Birnbaum.
Something tells me that more than 5 high school boys will break 4 minutes in 2022 👀
List of athletes that have a real shot at breaking 4 minutes next year:
• Connor Burns (3:58.83)
• Simeon Birnbaum (3:59.51)
• Aaron Sahlman (4:01.34)
• Devan Kipyego (4:00.64)
• Leo Young (4:00.77)
