She made history as the first African American officer in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAACs) and served in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II, a unit that organized undelivered mail for U.S. servicemen. Her contributions were highlighted in the Netflix film “The Six Triple Eight.” Adams Earley attained the rank of lieutenant colonel, the highest for women in the WAAC at the time, before transitioning into a civilian career focused on education and public service.
