Millions of people worldwide benefit from devices that regulate heart rhythm and shock the heart out of lethal arrhythmias to prevent sudden cardiac death. These devices, including the pacemaker and defibrillator, were developed by Paul Zoll in the 1950s while a professor at Harvard Medical School and a cardiologist at Beth Israel Hospital. Zoll’s work could not have been possible without federal funding and support. #Harvard #HarvardMed #research
