In celebration of Women's History Month, today we pay homage to Lilly McDaniel Ledbetter, an American activist whose pivotal role in a United States Supreme Court case on employment discrimination reshaped the landscape of fair pay. Following the Supreme Court's ruling that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 didn't permit lawsuits for pay discrimination beyond 180 days from the first paycheck, the U.S. Congress enacted the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009 in her honor to address this issue. Since then, Ledbetter has emerged as a fervent advocate for women's equality, a captivating public speaker, and a published author. In recognition of her impactful contributions, she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2011.
