This legend deserves a separate post from her bronzevillechildrensmuseum which I covered for Around Town today.
Peggy A. Montes was part of Mayor Harold Washington’s cabinet. She was responsible for the creation of the Commission of Women’s Affairs which diversified the city government. She started Women’s History Month. And at 88 years old is still at the helm of The Bronzeville Children’s Museum.
Ms. Peggy is a fierce advocate for women, for African Americans and for diversity. We listened to her attentively this morning talk about how women have to recognize and use their power. She told us how she speaks the truth no matter what. Ms Peggy beams with contagious pride at her accomplishments as a woman and as an African American.
What is the favorite part of my job. These chance encounters with every day icons.
