The 300 yard shuttle has nothing to do with demands of the sport of baseball. Baseball is dominated by alactic ability, or the ATP-PC energy system. I know this for one based upon the GPS data that we receive from our Catapult system as well as heart rate monitoring located within the sensor. It doesn’t take more than casual observation of the game itself to know the Anearobic-Glycolytic system doesn’t factor into the game of baseball….EVER. Just look at what the athletes do on field. They stand around for long periods of time separated by short bursts. The average distance of those bursts across an entire team is less than 6 yards at a time.

Baseball athletes sprint, rotate, and jump occasionally. There is no such need for a “conditioning” test that doesn’t even closely model the game. The actual game of baseball takes relatively little energy system development. If old men can drink beer while playing the game it tells you how little is demanded by other energy systems.
