In 1981,10-year-old Cherie Montague raised a German Shepherd named Happy, while her younger brother, 7-year-old Emory, cared for a spirited Corgi named Freedom. These young pioneers helped launch a #volunteer movement at Canine Companions that continues to this day. 🐕‍🦺 Over the years, the Montagues raised nine puppies of many breeds. When one of their dogs, Marin, was selected as a breeder dog, the family became the organization’s first volunteer breeder caretakers, ultimately raising four litters of future #servicedogs. They also cared for a male breeder dog, a Corgi named Bolts.
