🐾 Even though I’ve been training dogs for a lot of years, I haven’t always trained dogs the same way. I started as what I would call a ‘balanced’ trainer, where I used food as a lure to prompt behaviors.
➡️ When I felt the dog knew the behavior, they got a collar correction. I trained on a chain collar, I trained on a flat collar, and I trained on a prong collar.
💡 My journey into dog training and behavior started off with follow a cookie and get a pop. But by the early 90s, I had moved away from using any kind of physical corrections or verbal intimidation.
🐕 I began to focus on a more science-based approach where I was using reinforcement to train dogs. 🎯 And so, since the mid-90s—now for the past 30 years—my focus has been on reinforcement-based and game-based dog training.
