Vanessa Morrison’s
#RhodyAbroad experience in
#CapeTown was an unforgettable journey through history, adventure, and vibrant culture.
As part of CIEE’s J-Term program, Vanessa studied the legacy of colonialism and apartheid, researching how the HIV/AIDS epidemic was mismanaged in a polarized society. Through visits to townships and public hospitals, she examined how healthcare access continues to be shaped by political and social factors in post-apartheid South Africa.
Beyond the classroom, she embraced every adventure—hiking Table Mountain, surfing in Muizenberg, cage diving with sharks, and experiencing South Africa’s incredible wildlife on safari.
“My favorite part was experiencing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and forming friendships with locals and other international students,” Vanessa shared.
